KRISSY: My name is Krissy. I am a Senior IT Systems Analyst and I’ve been at Highmark for close to seven years. When I first joined Highmark, it was a lot smaller than it is now. And since we’ve been expanding and growing as a company and we’re acquiring other health plans or working with them, partnering with them, it has put more of a stress in our technical area, so much that we’ve understood a need to expand that.
Part of the expansion with the technical area has been growing it out into its own company, which is HM Health Solutions. So when we’re able to have a company that is dedicated to technology improvements and maintenance, we’re able to be more successful in that area than if we were a part of some other portion of the organization.
I am essentially a business analyst within the project world. There are kind of two different project career path business analysts at Highmark. The traditional is a Technical Business Analyst. And then, an IT Systems analyst is like the same thing, but for the IT part of the organization.
I gather requirements and work with customers to update things on applications or tools that we support. I’ve worked in multiple areas at Highmark for that, from membership to Integration Services. It’s just gathering requirements for their tools, making sure that they’re developed and tested properly and that the customer is satisfied with the end product.
And it’s satisfying knowing that I’m making a difference and I’m making things better. So that helps motivate me and keep sight of, even whenever work isn’t always great or maybe I’m stressed, or I have a lot to do, keeping sight of the end goal that I’m helping people is what motivates me to keep going. We are the heartbeat of health care.
