BRANDY: My name is Brandy. I am a behavioral health specialist with Highmark, and I joined our team in 2016. I am a licensed therapist, and I am part of the newly redesigned geo model and care management.
I work on a multidisciplinary team and any time a member within our government market population needs behavioral health consultations, the other members of the team will collaborate with me.
There is also the medical department, which is a team of nurses. There is a pharmacy department. And then we have a social work department. We have a nurse working with a member who has diabetes, a social worker helping them find medical equipment in their area. Our pharmacy team educates members on interactions between the medications they’re taking.
And then in behavioral health, we focus primarily on anxiety and depression, and we help them holistically create a treatment plan. And we follow up with them to make sure they’re attending their appointments, that they’re happy with their services. And our overall goal is to improve their quality of life.
There are a lot of ways that I’m able to help our members. But I have to say the greatest part about speaking with our members is hearing them say how grateful they are that an insurance company reached out to them, and members of my team were compassionate and empathic towards them– being able to help them understand that they’re not alone and that their health care doesn’t have to be as complicated as it sometimes can be.
